NRO image from Wikimedia Commons.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\nAlso known as <a href=\"http:\/\/nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov\/nmc\/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1962-067A\">1962 Tau Beta<\/a> (among other names), the Poppy spacecraft were a follow-on to the Galactic Radiation and Background (GRAB) series of ELINT satellites, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.graymanwrites.com\/forums\/entry.php?455-Two-Payloads-Two-Orbits-Two-Space-Firsts\">pictured in this previous blog entry<\/a>. Several Poppy spacecraft were launched together, in tandem with the <a href=\"http:\/\/nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov\/nmc\/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1962-067B\">Injun 3<\/a> instrumentation satellite.<\/p>\n<p>The National Reconnaissance Office <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nro.gov\/news\/press\/2005\/2005-06.pdf\">declassified the Poppy program in 2005<\/a>, and prepared a report entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nro.gov\/history\/csnr\/programs\/docs\/prog-hist-03.pdf\">Raising the Periscope<\/a> that contains select details about it and the GRAB program.<\/p>\n<a
