US Navy image.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\nThe launch was called Composite-1, or &#8220;Buckshot,&#8221; and intended to launch:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SOLRAD-4 (Solar Radiation or SR-4) &#8212; intended to measure and analyze solar emissions, but also incorporating the GREB IV (Galactic Radiation Experimental Background, also known as Galactic Radiation and Background, or <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Galactic_Radiation_and_Background\">GRAB<\/a>) reconnaissance payload<\/li>\n<li>Lofti III &#8212; Low-Frequency Trans-Ionospheric satellite, a follow-on to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LOFTI-1\">Lofti-I<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Injun_(satellite)\">Injun<\/a>-II &#8212; a University of Iowa payload to study the Van Allen radiation belt<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daviddarling.info\/encyclopedia\/S\/SECOR.html\">Secor<\/a> &#8212; Sequential Collation of Range, an experiment in geolocation<\/li>\n<li>Surcal &#8212; Surveillance Calibration satellite, used to calibrate the Naval Space Surveillance system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nAccording to the 02\/01\/62 issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/pdfarchive\/view\/1962\/1962%20-%200182.html\">FLIGHT International<\/a>, the launch failed because &#8220;the second stage of the Thor AbleStar failed to build
