{"id":1443,"date":"2013-04-09T06:13:48","date_gmt":"2013-04-09T10:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.graymanwrites.com\/blog\/?p=1443"},"modified":"2013-04-10T05:31:07","modified_gmt":"2013-04-10T09:31:07","slug":"buy-a-book-help-my-teachers-injured-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grayrinehart.com\/blog\/buy-a-book-help-my-teachers-injured-son\/","title":{"rendered":"Buy a Book, Help My Teacher&#8217;s Injured Son"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Serious business here: Tomorrow &#8212; Wednesday, April 10, 2013 &#8212; a &#8220;book bomb&#8221; is in the works to push two of Dave Wolverton&#8217;s books, both written under his pen name of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runelords.com\/\">David Farland<\/a>, to help cover the medical costs for his critically-injured 16-year-old son.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.graymanwrites.com\/pix\/blog\/2013\/BenW.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><br \/>\n<em>(Ben Wolverton, on a happier day.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The particulars:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve known Dave Wolverton since 2004, when we sat next to one another at Orson Scott Card&#8217;s Literary Boot Camp. Dave was already a professional writer and bestselling author, and took the course to pick up teaching tips. Then in 2008, I attended Dave&#8217;s Novel Writing Workshop.<\/li>\n<li>Last week Dave\u2019s son Ben was in a serious long-boarding accident. I can barely fathom the extent of his injuries: &#8220;severe brain trauma, a cracked skull, broken pelvis and tail bone, burnt knees, bruised lungs, broken ear drum, road rash.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>As of late yesterday, Ben was still in a coma.<\/li>\n<li>Since Dave is a self-employed writer, and medical insurance for self-employed people can be problematic, they have no insurance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Several folks close to the family have organized a book bomb &#8212; i.e., they&#8217;re asking people to coordinate their purchases to call special attention to select works &#8212; focused on Dave&#8217;s novel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B006P7SEBY\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=B006P7SEBY&amp;link_code=as3&amp;tag=davidfarnet-20\">Nightingale<\/a> and his writing book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00B9JYJ6W\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=B00B9JYJ6W&amp;link_code=as3&amp;tag=davidfarnet-20\">Million Dollar Outlines<\/a>.
